Next Stop: Riga

While we're waiting for the bubble to burst in Cannes, it's a great time to plug the next stop on the bwin world tour, which will be the inaugural GSOP Live event in Riga.

You've enjoyed playing the online GSOP series, but bwin is kicking it up a notch with the GSOP Live tournament series, which includes live events at Riga, Budapest, Malta, and Seville.

$3,000 trip packages are currently up for grabs in weekly qualifiers, with plenty of players already snagging their trip package to join the bwin Team and the bwin poker blog in Riga. The last time the Team was in Riga it resulted in Wieringen winning the Rigged in Riga event, so hopefully the Team will once again produce the champion of the Riga GSOP Live event.

Action has ground to a halt here with the bubble approaching and plenty of deep stacks to work with, as no one is willing to come up just short in their quest for the money. We've been stuck on 86 players remaining (with 81 spots paying) for nearly an hour, which is where we're at for the dinner break.

Let’s Make Some Money in Cannes

We're back from dinner and they're just moments away from resuming play here at the Partouche Poker Tour Final. 86 players remain, so 5 more players will need to bust before the players are in the money and €12,000 richer for their efforts.

Both ChipLieder85 and selfmade78 are on very short stacks so cross your fingers that they manage to hang on and make it to the money. Blinds are now 2,500/5,000 with a 500 ante.

While we've been poker-heavy on the updates the last few days, keep in mind that these trips with the bwin Team are great vacations in their own right, with a full schedule of activities and VIP events for the players and their guests. Below is a video from the rally car day earlier on the trip that was a huge hit with all th players and bwin staff, and just a small taste of the experience you'll have if you qualify for a trip with the Team:
ChipLieder85 Can’t Quite Get There

Sadly for ChipLieder85, the bubble suspense just ended abruptly. He shoved with KJ from the button but former bwin Team member Marc Inizan (LocStaOnFire) called with AK and ChipLieder85 couldn't manage to come from behind.

He'd battled all day with very little to work with in the way of cards, and made the most of what he was dealt. It's not all bad news for ChipLieder85, as he's already qualified for the next live event in Riga so he'll be back in action shortly with the Team.

Money Money Money!

Good news (plus a little bad news) from here in Cannes, as three of our bwin players have played their way into the money and a payday of at least €12,000!

imanol33, DarkNomaD, and selfmade78 have all survived the money bubble, which just burst here in Cannes. Ironically enough, it was former bwin Team member Marc Inizan who was the bubble boy, getting his money in good with QQ on a 9 high flop but unable to dodge his opponent's flush draw, which got there on the river.

DarkNomaD just doubled up to get up to about 180,000, but selfmade78 is on a very short stack of just 51,000. imanol33 is just over 200,000, where he's hung steady at for the last few hours. There are currently 80 players left, with an average stack of 286,000.

Steady as They Go

No huge confrontations to report here of late for the final two bwin players, but both have managed to chip up since the last break:

imanol33: 340,000
DarkNomaD: 130,000

We're down to 57 players left, so they're closing in on the next pay jump at 54th place, which pays €18,500.

With the end of the day in sight the action is slowing a bit, as players have been at it for more than 11 stressful hours already, with just over an hour to go before they bag up chips for the night.

Average stack is 400,000 with blinds of 3,000/6,000 and a 500 ante.

Action here has been consolidated down to just seven tables in one corner of the tournament room
Chipping Up

Our last two bwinners continue to not just hang in there but to build up their stacks in the late stages of action on Day 3:

DarkNomaD: 375,000
imanol33: 350,000

Both bwin players have managed to drag some nice pots without showdowns, grinding their stacks up closer to average stack, which is just over 400,000 at the moment. We're still on 57 players left, so no eliminations in the last 45 minutes or so. They've got a little less than half an hour until play ends for the day.
Wrapping it Up for Day 3

We've finished up play here on Day 3, which saw three bwin players make the money with two still sitting on chips and in the mix when play ended.

We started the day with five players, but mitch17 and ChipLieder85 would fall just short of the money finish line. selfmade78 navigated his short stack past the bubble and cashed for €15,000, a great showing for his first big live event.

As far as the players still in the hunt, here are the chip counts for the two bwin players who survived Day 3:

DarkNomaD: 423,000
imanol33: 414,000

55 players remain, so they're guaranteed a payout of €15,000 and are one elimination off the next money jump to €18,500 at 54th place. Our last two survivors both had the normal swings you experience in a long day of poker but both managed to chip up when it counted, building their stacks up towards the end of play. They'll be right at average stack when play resumes tomorrow for Day 4.

DarkNomaD and imanol33 will return for Day 4 to try to add to the €15,000 they're already guaranteed
