My A Game is On Full Throttle

The WPT London Poker Classic is coming up fast, of course I’ll be playing, and while that’s running, the cash games at Crockfords will be thundering with the sound of chip chatter and players on their knees crying when they try to beat me. I’m in good poker form, running good, feeling good, and that means my poker mouth is running good too—watch out! Right after the WPT, the Party Poker.com World Open VI starts and I’ll be there too, working on sending everyone out looking for their bikes.

Right now I’m in Riga, Lativa. I’m going to do a new TV show here called the Baltic Poker Championships.

The Big Game Players

I just came from Las Vegas after playing in The Big Game for Fox. It’s a memory I’m going to keep for a long, long time. Phil Hellmuth no longer wants to play with me. I played against Daniel Negreanu too, if you remember the last time I was there I called him out for being a bike thief; if he wasn’t then, he may need to steal one now since I lightened his bankroll and he may not be able to afford to buy one. Poker can be so ‘crushing’ at times and I love the roll of CRUSHER! It was such fun, the best TV time I’ve ever had in my life. The show will be great, don’t miss it!

Along with the Big Game players, I was treated to Elizabeth, a ‘Loose Cannon’ that needed my expert guidance at the poker table and at the post show party at XS Nightclub at Encore. Life can’t get much better, beautiful women (she has a twin sister), everything going my way at the poker table, The Poker Brat crying, and more poker on the way. I was invited to the Raising the Stakes Poker Dinner that aids the Great Ormond Street Hospital (the world’s biggest children’s hospital) at Les Ambassadeurs at the end of this month. The Poker Brat is going to sit at my table. Such fun, such fun, even though it’s a dinner table and not a poker table, I’m sure I can make him cry.

I just love to be in the game. Poker was created just for me. It’s fun when you’re running good and when that happens, even players like me can look like gods, at least for a short time. Even a god enjoys seeing The Poker Brat cry.

Staying off the streets of London

I took down the $120K winner-take-all Poker Lounge in Cardiff at the end of July and had a great time doing it. It was a 6-seat sit and go for TV with a $20K buy-in. Jennifer Harman, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, and James Dempsey were in my heat. I ran over them and forced them to leave crying on the bike ride out. Mike Matusow and I ended up heads-up with The Mouth having a thin chip lead. It was an awesome repeat of the famous WPT Bad Boys of Poker finale. I crushed Mike then and I double crushed him again so bad that he had no tears left for the bike ride. The G is up and running in full form after taking some time away from the game.

I am in London right now enjoying life and played a pretty high stakes cash game last night in Les Ambassadeurs Casino and ended up just about even. I had a few side bets with Roland de Wolfe on odds of making a back door flush with one card gone. I am really weak at math but seemed to win from Roland on pure fact bets. It’s pretty silly as everyone knows I am a pretty major mug and should take me on with any bets and clean me out.

I am lining up for the big trip to Las Vegas this Tuesday where I will again get ready for the Big Game on Fox. I will play twice and am coming after Daniel to get some revenge. I will spend nine days in Vegas and then fly to Latvia where I play another TV event, the Baltic Poker Champs, that will be fun with all Baltic States playing. The PartyPoker World Open VI is starting, Phil Laak is the defending champion and confirmed to play but he took a bad tumble on an ATV and is in the hospital in Oregon with seven broken bones and a very bad injury to his right eye. Tough luck Phil, best wishes on your recuperation. I am also confirmed to play the World Open Vi and the World Poker Tour London that starts on the 29th of August. Busy times for me in the poker world right now but I am up for the challenge and filled with heart that the biggest donkey will win in the end. We all know donkeys can’t ride a bike!

So for now I am trying to stay out of trouble and off the London streets and pick a few winners – at least more winners than losers – in Aussie Rules Football. It’s been an amazing season this year. I just had my biggest bet of the year on Carlton vs. Essendon – go mighty blues!! How much do I bet on an Aussie Football League game? Well, it’s six numbers and I would bet more if they let me as I love to win.

One last thought – may your bike tires never go flat, may I never need to wonder if mine are.

I’ve been away and enjoyed every minute of it but I’m ready to come back to the world of high stakes heat, TV poker, and all the action anyone can throw at me. I will be playing the Poker Lounge in Wales on the 22nd. From there it will be the Poker Millions Event Heat 1 in London on 28th. It will be a busy day and a fair bit of poker on TV that day as I will be doing two shows that day on the Poker Lounge.

My next poker ventures will be the WSOP Europe, and WPT events as well as all the EPT events. I will focus on playing in London.

The WSOP main event started without me and I’m sure they aren’t missing me at all and it’s probably more amplified from my side since I’m really glad I am where I am. I am doing great. I’ve been watching the soccer world cup. I love watching the game and the competition.

I have been spending time with my kids and really enjoying being out of poker for awhile – just taking it easy and relaxing. I won’t be playing poker until the WSOP Europe comes up and other EPT events in Europe.

I am back in London. I am really glad to have some time off and away from the WSOP. There are a few sites talking it up about me leaving the WSOP right now and even throwing in name calling. Guess what? I don’t care. I play when I enjoy playing and I do my best. I don’t have to play on their schedule or on their idea of how I should react. They seem to have forgotten that poker is a game and the player chooses the field of competition.

I am crushed that I could not make a final table or pick up a bracelet this year but I will most likely play the Main Event and take a crack at the WSOP Europe later on, I won’t give up trying.

The PokerStars Big Game aired on TV in the US on the 14th and if you missed it, you can watch it on the PokerStars Blog. The loose cannon, Ernest Wiggins, comes in with $100K and plays against the pros: Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Phil Laak, The G (me), and Phil Hellmuth. We play 150 hands and I’m the most aggressive according to the stats, 15 times more aggressive to bet or raise than call than the other players. I hate it when my secrets are given away. I did have a great time with the Big Game.

I’m always busy with my business and working on good health and enjoying life. I want to have a good time, no matter what I do – which includes riding my trike.

P.S. After playing the WSOP $10k PLO event all day and busting close to the money with Hellmuth at my table, the only consolation was that he busted before me. I went to Bobbys Room at Bellagio to relax and got into a 4K-8K mixed game. We played limit Deuce to 7 triple draw and 500-1000 PLO. Ivey was drunk, on my right, and there were some bets on him vomitting in Bobbys Room but it was all fun and games, no harm intended, just laughter and good times. The Ivey BBQ was on today and the big boys in the game were more than happy. Durrrr was in the game and so was Benyamine and the crazy Frenchy Ciryl. I managed to snag a few pots from Ivey and peddled my bike out to home, I was a very happy punter and more important, a winner.

Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better Championship

Tony spends a few minutes with Gloria Balding as she says this tournament is one of the easiest tournaments ever and Tony agrees by saying that he’s the best player there *note the laughter in the background* as Tony continues. He just put his shares up on ChipMeUp and they are sold out already. He’s trying hard, he hasn’t cashed yet at the World Series but he has won a tournament in the last week. He’s doing well, and having a good year, and he feels good about the $10K PLO Hi/Low tournament that continues again today.

He says he’s doing his best with his limited abilities, just plugging away and if he doesn’t final table in this event, it will probably be his last event until perhaps the Main Event.

He talks about the balance of poker and life and being able to step away from it for awhile to bring it back into the right focus.

He’s also sweating the Aussie Rules Football game and has sportsbets on it as he plays poker. He used to play the game as a kid.

He made a 100k bet with Phil Ivey on this game and talks about his last crazy bet with Tom Dwan in the Deuce to 7 Lowball Draw tournament.

He’s looking at houses in Las Vegas since he plans on buying a house in the area and says he’s in Patrick’s house right now and it was incorrectly reported that he was going to buy it, he’s still looking.

Away from the camera, Tony reports that he’s super motivated to do well in this event and he really enjoys the game and has done well in it over the years.

I got to the tournament area late, after the dinner break. I had business to take care of and this was going to probably be my last event at the WSOP this year. I haven’t decided if I will be back for the Main Event or not.

I had a last longer bet with Tom Dwan. If he outlasted me, I had to go over to his table and do 5 pushups, if I outlasted him, he had to come to mine and do 15. I lost the bet. Those 5 pushups were not easy, it’s much easier to ride a bike, but I have been working out with a trainer and it won’t be long before they are much easier. Losing the bet wasn’t easy either because I wanted to play and see if I could start moving up the ladder.

For now I’m going home to Europe soon. I want to spend time with my family and keep working on good health. I may return to the Series, I may not. I will be playing the Poker Lounge Show in Cardiff in the UK on July 21st, that is the only poker plan I have right now.

The WSOP – how do they choose a champion?

Tonight I am playing the 2-7 Low Ball Draw, No Limit $10,000 buy-in Championship Event. I just busted from the 5K NL Event. Busting is such an ugly thing. I do play to have fun but I’m competitive and I enjoy being able to pick up chips and make a run at the big money and in this case, the Gold Bracelet. If I can’t put anything together in the Deuce, I will probably be leaving for Europe to spend time with my family.

I have a bit of burnout going on and I’m running bad. Three different times in the 5K I was good pre-flop and ran into bad endings that killed me. It happens, poker is a game and I am very aware of it. But when I am no longer having fun, it’s time to do something else and that will be leaving for home. I may not return to play the WSOP $10K main event. I am very unhappy with the way the WSOP is filling one of the 27 seats. I wasn’t asked and I’ve played all the high buy-in events, I’m very high profile and good poker show material as is evidenced by my recent appearances on the Doubles Championship, World Team Poker, and The Big Game, and I play poker across the globe, with many different people.

The list of players that have been chosen to play a ‘sudden death-playoff’ in a nine player sit-n-go tournament are: Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Andy Bloch, Bertrand “ElKy” Grospellier, Gus Hanson, actor Don Cheadle, Sorel Mizzi, Michael Mizrachi, Liv Boeree, and Paul Wasicka. They are playing in this race to win a seat into the TOC and are chosen because they don’t hold WSOP bracelets. Who chose them? Why do they have priority over other players that don’t have gold bracelets?

Players are asking questions, including Annie Duke on Twitter: “Obviously, I love Don Cheadle but I think it is ridiculous he is playing in the 9 handed tourney for a spot in the TOC. Should all be champs” She has several solutions to filling the seat: “There would be an argument that spots should be for bracelet winners who don’t get voted in only. But certainly must have a major title,” and “Take the nine players who just miss in the voting and have them play for the seat.”

I feel some of the choices are good ones, others are just wrong, and I would like to know who made the choices and why they made them. The WSOP is being unfair with this decision and because of it I may just pass on the WSOP and the Main Event. I don’t believe I am the only one that is unhappy with the way this great event is being made into a mockery of a true Tournament of Champions.

Winning a gold bracelet

Lynn Gilmartin talks to Tony about the 5K, Tony says Tom Dwan paid him off and Tom’s money is heavy and he just wants to get rid of it. Tony talks about getting healthy and fit and how Kirill, his best friend, has motivated him to do it.

Tony says he just got his first bracelet, someone told him he was going to win one and he went to the 64th floor of Wynn Casino and won some money in an invitational tournament and a gold bracelet. He said it was an easy event and it takes some of the pressure off by putting money in the bank. *His friends laugh* Tony thanks Party Poker for putting him into all these tournaments.

Omaha Hi/Low 8 or Better

Gloria Balding catches Tony just as he’s heading out to dinner. He’s playing in the Omaha Hi/Lo Limit tournament. Tony says he needs a good run. He’s in to small tournaments now and things haven’t been going well but he’s not giving up. He plays for fun but he plays to win and every tournament he enters is one that he wants to win.

Everyone, including Phil Ivey, are playing all the tournaments – low limit buy-ins and big buy-ins, everyone has different reasons to play but it’s all about the bracelet. Tony really wants to win one, time will tell but he wants to win one.

He’s comfortable with all games and any limit. Gloria asks about the game Go Fish, which sends Tony off to dinner to eat some.

WSOP Day 1 – Waiting to Play

Lynn Gilmartin chats with Tony on the first day of the WSOP. Tony’s pumped up and on the list, ready to jump into the 50k sharkfest. There’s a new rule - if you show up late, you have to wait for the start of the next round. That’s what has happened to Tony, he has to wait for the full round of games before he can play the tournament. Tony says he doesn’t mind, as long as he knows the rules, he knows what to do.

Lynn is trying to verify the rumor that the $50k Poker Players Championship entrants got a $100 food voucher – the normal one is $10 – but Tony can’t find his, even though he searches for it.

Tony says he’s going to try to win something at the WSOP and he will just keep plugging away and have fun playing, have fun in Vegas, and get healthy and fit. He’s working out a lot. He’s happy with the way things are going and enjoying what he does…”That’s what it’s all about.”

The 50K WSOP is next

I’ll be staying in Las Vegas now until the WSOP starts and focusing on the 50K event. After that I’ll decide if I’m staying longer in Vegas or taking a trip to parts unknown for awhile. Even if I leave during the Series, I have plans to play some of the events.

I just played the World Team Poker (WTP) event at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. The whole concept is fantastic and this could be THE poker innovation of the decade. With China winning it, it could help poker in Asia and we do need a second boom in the market of online poker. It is amazing to see all of the major online poker sites represented at this event, and the teams playing and working together; that alone is a huge move for poker.

Tournament Time

The WTP was put together by small people with big ideas (not the usual corporate conglomerate) and I guess that sums up what America is all about and what I am about, big ideas with regular people behind them. Good on them for pulling this off and they have signed so many of the top players in the world that they have a real asset. I hope this turns out to be the biggest thing in poker.

The Team in a huddle

The team time-outs will be a huge part of the show and the audience gets to tune in and watch when the team captain comes over – sometimes steamed up. One case example is when Brazil had K-K in Omaha and was looking at a 3^rd reraise. It was clear he was beat and he had K-K-10-2 vs. the A-A for Vietnam and called for time-out. The team captain came over and said fold but the player called anyway. LOL Obviously the 10-2 came into play and Brazil bad beat A-A in Omaha but the drama of that moment is a huge part of what makes the team play a big hit.

Other moments with Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, the DevilFish, and commentary with Robert Williamson III as the announcer make the show a hit.

Everyone's tired but the Team Spirit still runs high!

The teams will only get stronger. My team, Team Australia, lost the very first four players and had one left. We clawed our way back up to fight again. I played in the end in PLO to get us through but David Saab, with his huge aggression, gave us a big boost, and then Jeff Lisandro played in LH. We used our best suited players for each game. We all love it despite the show and the organization not being the best, but it was their inaugural event and the first one takes a little time to figure out. We all expected to support people with big ideas and let’s hope they become big people with the WTP. Good luck to Robert Turner; he has been around the poker traps for years and for him to pull this off is great for everyone and gives us hope.

Still in the Desert

I’m in Tucson Arizona, that’s southeast of Phoenix and just about 60 miles north of the US/Mexico Border. I’m here to continue working on my quest for great health and a good life. I may have to quickly jet in and play the World Team Poker event at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the 18th, before flying in to play the 50K event at the WSOP on the 28th.

The World Team Poker Event is a one day contest with 40 of the world’s top poker pros and five man teams that represent eight different countries. The countries have captains and co-captains:

Phil Hellmuth Jr, USA
Johnny Chan and David Chiu, China – co-captains
Men “The Master” Nguyen, Vietnam
Eli Elezra, Israel
Ben Roberts, England
Jeff Lisandro and Tony Gouga (The G), Australia – co-captains
Juliana Maesano, Brazil
George Kapalas, Greece

The team buy-in is $50K and we will be playing LH, PLO, and NLH. It’s going to be very entertaining and the event will be televised.

I’m not sure how many events I will play at the WSOP but I will put my biggest effort into the starting event, the $50K, early on.

As to my latest poker playing adventures and fun, I can’t talk about the Doubles Championship I just completed in Las Vegas but you’ll soon see it on TV. Get ready for a show!

Back to my old ways

I have played a mega session of cash games with Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Laak. The show will be televised on Fox Sports in the USA starting in June. I am going back in today and I am not allowed to talk about the results but I am back to my brutal best and my old ways.

Kudos to PokerStars for coming up with this amazing concept of a Loose Cannon. The player gets a $100K freeroll but only gets to keep what he wins. The home viewer has someone to relate to as they watch the Cannon fire up his game. And let’s get back to Phil Hellmuth – he suffered badly again, not to mention being outclassed, and against all odds he was humiliated yet again.

Pssst! Hellmuth, you need to get that mind coach on standby full time now or it could be the trike for you forever my friend!

I am loving it in Las Vegas and I am still in the Full Tilt show, still alive, and playing great poker in the Doubles Championship event (the picture is my teammate and I on Friday night). Today I play with David Benyamine again. I can’t talk about the results but I am giving everyone a hard, hard time. Bring me the big name pros and I will crush them one by one.

In Las Vegas getting ready to play POKAH!

I’m staying at Wynn Las Vegas. They take very good care of me here and gave me a nice villa with a pool. I love it!

Right now I’m getting ready to play in the Doubles Championship that is going on at the Golden Nugget. So far I have been paired with Johnny Chan and Erik Seidel. The field includes Phil Hellmuth, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari and all the big names in poker. It’s an amazing concept, Mori Eskandani has some incredible innovation and this will be a huge show. One player plays the flop and then you change cards – so Chan would see a flop and then I pay after the turn comes and we change again. We have one time out, anyway, it’s an amazing concept.

I am not allowed to write about results but I can say I am doing very well. I will be playing again tonight at 7 p.m.

Next week I join the big game that will be filmed at South Point. I start this game tomorrow morning. It’s a 100K buy-in cash game that will be shown on Fox Sports. I am keen to do well and have four re-buys ready.

I hope to go out in the desert area around Las Vegas for a hike next week – and win a lot of money in the big game. Check back.

A Long Day With Viktor Blom

I played all day with Viktor in the PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo High Roller Event and got to know him pretty well as a poker player.

I have my own observations and thoughts on poker players, especially after spending table time with them, and I have to be honest here. Viktor has talent but he is really raw. He’s not a favorite in MTT events. He has a long way to go to even be near the top and have a fighting chance in MTTs. That doesn’t mean I’m saying he doesn’t have talent, he has tremendous talent but he’s going to have to learn if he continues to play MTTs and wants to do any good in them. I talked to him and tried to give him some advice but since he’s 19, he has it all worked out and doesn’t want to take any advice. That’s the beauty of youth, they know everything, I did when I was that age too.

He’s a good looking kid with a huge future but he will have to take advice on board and use it as a tool and he needs to learn other things, like perception and what others think about you. You need to be self aware in poker and be able to adjust based on other player’s perception of you. Vik plays every hand like it’s a new event, which is very refreshing, but in MTTs, and even in cash games, you have to be aware of how you are perceived at each and every stage of the game.

He made one huge over bet on the river with a bluff that seemed obvious. He ran really good by winning about five marginal all-in hands and getting A-A vs. K-K in another all-in pot.

In the final hand he had about 50 BB and got it all-in vs. K-K preflop—it seemed hard to do with his J-J but he managed it. He was notably crushed when he busted, totally gutted. The good thing is that he has the passion to win so he will make it – the poker world needs him to make it so let’s all hope he does.

My summation: ran good, has talent, but has a long, long way to go in MTTs.

Pssst…Vik, it’s a huge event, you can fold J-J to the tightest player at the table.

Busted from the Main Event at Monte Carlo

I am in Monte Carlo, and just busted from the main event. I lost 80 percent of my stack on a nasty 10 on the river when I flopped a set of Jacks. Life really treats me so well that I am very happy to come here and get busted within the first six hours. Last year I got busted but came back well in the High Roller Event and won over $500K in cash and I plan on doing the same thing this year, so busting out of the main event early allows me to take it easy for a few days and then I am lining up for the High Roller event.

Soon I will be on my way to Las Vegas to play in a lot of TV events. This is going to be very exciting because I should be in Vegas by the 3rd of May and really plan on creating some serious TV entertainment. Then I will hit the WSOP hard very early on and focus on the high stakes buy-in events since they are so much more fun for me to play when I’m against the best players.

Right now I am relaxing, but shortly I will be busting some asses in the High Roller event here in Monte Carlo.

I am back in London. I was in the Isle of Man for a few days and my return trip went through Liverpool to London where I had to take a ferry and train so the trip took quite some time. I am focusing on Monaco. I will be going there to play the EPT. The High Roller Event last year was good so I hope to follow up close to, or better results, this year.

Bluffed by Isildur1

I really thought he was coming to play the PartyPoker Big Game and we had worked everything out with Eddie Hearn, managing director and organizer of Matchroom Sport, and he would be allowed to play in a mask if he wanted and we were going to raise the stakes when he came in because he had said he didn’t think the stakes were big enough for him. We had a 50/50 staking deal.
Then I got a SMS from him “sry for not coming, take care bud.” It was a personal message to me and then management got involved as is expected in an event as big as this, and it’s true, he is not coming.

I have been bluffed before but I was counting on Isi to be there and this bluff is really disappointing to me. I am taking it personally. I’m not happy about it since he reached out to me and asked and then we spent some time working out details and he agreed to play. I had planned to fly Isi and three of his friends to London and we were ready to go. So the PartyPoker.com Big Game IV at Les Ambassadeurs in London will be minus one mystery guest and some of the anticipation and excitement will be missing, but not for long.

I am excited about playing. I will be entering to ‘Bicycle Race‘ by Queen. The James Bond theme ‘From Russia With Love‘ was also considered but it will be Bicycle Race. I planning on crushing all of them and using a tried and true method known as ‘bust and bike time!” I have wired in a lot of money to make it happen.

One last word on Isildur1, As stated before, I now, more than ever, want to make him bleed from the mask in a poker game. It’s bike time for him although I know that he’s soon going to take his driving test and I wish him luck. I am guessing that he will drive a Dodge Viper for his first set of wheels. But he needs to know how to ride a bike and get ready to ride it when he sees me coming. I have had confirmation that he will be in Monte Carlo and I’ll be waiting.

I have brought someone with me to London, a great player, and now that Isildur1 isn’t here in need of a mask, I may use it for this player. Mysteries are so much fun!

When the event is televised all over the world, everyone will see the Frog raising and stacking.

You can wear any mask you want, including one that I will have made just for you if that’s your choice. You don’t even have to talk, you can use hand signals for raising and checking, but from watching you play online I know you will use the raise motion the most.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is a friend and he will help you remain anonymous. You know I love your style and I want to watch you play and it will only make us better friends and more competitive in poker, I do hope you’ll accept. We will ask to get the event renamed if you agree to come. We will talk to the owners of the Les Ambassadeurs Club Les Isildur1’s for that one night.

Pauly’s Pen

The poem that Pauly used as a beginning for his post on Phil Hellmuth and me, the G, is a classic but what goes on between Hellmuth and me is beyond classic. If you want to read more about the poem and find a varying definition of what it means, read here and here.

If you want to find out how I feel about Hellmuth keep reading. I love to taunt him. Who wouldn’t? He invites it and everyone knows that he is going to try to be the star of every show no matter how he has to do it, even if it’s showing up as Caesar at the World Series of Poker. The thing that stands out most about Hellmuth, to everyone, are his quick retorts and cutting remarks when he gets beat. Why would he expect to win every hand he plays? And why is his behavior tolerated by anyone, including tournament directors, when he behaves the way he does? For that reason, I taunt him and try to get him to go over the edge because that’s where I want him, over the edge when I play against him and I’m going to try to bust him hard when I play against him. My letter to Hellmuth has been dissected and explained by more than one, I do not feel the need to explain. I do feel that when a player of his caliber leaves a tournament table and curls up on the floor in fetal position in front of the audience and the cameras that something is wrong. He is either mentally off balance or he’s putting on the ultimate show to get attention which is one of his tricks.

Pauly’s post is funny, you will enjoy it. I don’t need biting lessons and yes I am blessed by the Gods with Super Human Strength and a great bike for a fast get away if I need it. I am a trash talker and it’s part of my game. I had a fantastic time trash talking the Russian, you will notice in the video that he kept smiling at the end but did not reply. Anyone that knows Ralph Perry knows those smiles. Or maybe the smile was complete shock because he played as bad as he did. Yosh Nakano and Sam Farha thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.

Anyone that knows me knows that I would not try to force my poker ideas on other cultures or people. I would try to trash talk them under the table if the opportunity arises. I enjoy it! I play poker for fun, I have a poker related business that keeps my time very well covered and poker plays its role as entertainment for me, that entertainment includes writing letters to Phil Hellmuth and trash talking the Ralph Perrys of the world. If you meet me at a table and want to trash talk me, I say “Bring it on Baby!”

More Business and Future Poker Horizons

I have a new side to my business. I work at a variety of projects and try new ideas to see what works and what doesn’t and I keep reevaluating what I have accomplished and where I’m going. My latest business project is focusing on consulting and helping poker all over the world. I got a very good result in Lithuania where poker is now a sport and I feel I had a part in making that happen. I am proud that poker has a different status than casino games.

Domains are being blocked in Estonia but the good news is that it’s not hard to get a license and become legal in Estonia. I am in the process of setting up PokerNews Consultation and will help out gaming companies in this region, making it profitable to operate a business there.

I am passionate about poker and I believe everyone has the right to play.

I also believe everyone must prepare for a bike ride now and then…have you had yours today?

Lithuania

I am in Lithuania right now having a good time with work. Most of you probably think of work as a task or something that you have to do to make your poker buy-in and pay the rent, but I enjoy work, especially if it is all about poker and the internet. It’s challenging and fun because it’s more like solving puzzles and fitting the pieces together to accomplish what I want. Along with work, I’m also enjoying family and friends and the feeling of home since I travel so much.

I will be going to France soon and play poker as well this month. There is a heads-up event I want to play in. I wasn’t good enough to get an invite to the NBC Heads-up so I hope to win this event to prove them wrong for not wanting me at the Heads-up competition. I want to teach other players to get ready for the Bike Ride and what better way than in a heads-up match?

Over the next few months I will be really focusing on my business and see just how far I can go with it. I won’t be playing much live and will reserve most of my playing time for PartyPoker. I hope to see you at the tables.

NAPT Venetian $25K High Rollers

I’m in Las Vegas for the PokerStars NAPT $25K High Rollers event. There will be 49 players and the line up is pretty tough. I will be specifically looking for Daniel Negreanu. I had my bike shipped from the M Resort and was told it was on the way and should be at the Venetian by the time I arrived. My bike has gone missing. I am sure that Daniel took it since he is a bike mechanic. Until I find the bike, I won’t know where it went missing and if Daniel really had something to do with it.

I was asked before the High Roller heat started if I knew who was at my table. My reply was that I really didn’t want to know. Poker is still a game to me, I spend more time working on the business of poker and putting my contacts and knowledge of online poker to work for me than I do playing at the table. I want to enjoy the play of the game and if I have to spend every day grinding, I can’t, so I choose to work with poker in other ways that suit me and play when I want to play, that way I can laugh and enjoy my time with the game and the people I’m playing with.

Ready to Play $25K High Rollers

I have been skiing at Brian Head and only flew into Vegas late yesterday afternoon. I am tired but ready to play. After the High Rollers event I will be going to London and after that, returning to my home in Lithuania where I will spend time with family and relax for a bit. I am still working on my health and will continue to do that.

I will also work on my poker game as time permits and I will definitely work on finding out if Daniel is the one who sent my bike out of action. You can’t mess with Tony G’s bike and just walk away thinking there is no consequence. Consider this a bike warning to everyone!

Back in L.A. - The Premier League Starts soon

I have been in L.A. for a few days now after catching a direct flight out of Melbourne. The flight only took 13 hours and I’m staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel - it is very nice.

Somehow, I managed to catch a cold but I can’t remember looking for it to begin with - or it caught me. I’m a bit under the weather due to circumstances beyond my control. Jogging and exercise are out of the question right now, I’m just taking it easy for the time being, acclimating myself to the climate and area after being in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions.

I’m going to spend the next few days seeing myself take the title of the Party Poker Premier League this year. It’s a very tough line-up Luke Schwartz, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, David Benyamine, Phil Hellmuth, JC Tran - last year’s champion, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Roland de Wolfe, and Doyle Brunson is in it also. It’s going to be tough, and sick competition, and fun. I can’t wait! I love that event!

Staying with the positive thought that I will win the Premier League event, after I take it down I will be playing a PokerStars special invitation event that has a 25K buy-in and only 36 players in a shoot out. That is the 23rd at the Venetian, after the NAPT I believe. To warm up for that event, I will also be seeing myself winning it, devoting my energy to a lot of positive thought, and by the time I leave L.A. I should be finished with the cold that caught me and I will be ready to go skiing (I’m definitely considering skiing) as I head to Las Vegas and the PokerStars event.

As I end this post, one word of advice, never go looking for a cold, it’s sure to find you if you do. Do look for your bike when you are at the table with me; it definitely beats walking and may prevent a cold from catching you.

Day 1C $1,100 Opening Event Aussie Millions

Tony’s greeted by Lynn Gilmartin and she asked him how today was going. Tony said things were good, he showed up about four hours late for the tournament and then he busted out when he pushed with K-2 and ran into Queens. He’s still in the holiday mode, having fun, and gearing up for the 100K event which he will be really focused on but in the meantime…he’s just having fun. To quote, “I’m just a fun guy!” *It’s a Tony G thing - he likes to have fun*

Tony had a party at his house last night. Tony is at the top of the world with the time he spends in Australia and time with his family, he’s happy, and says it’s nice catching up with all the people, it’s like his hometown “it’s the best place in the world.”

But in the middle of all the fun, it’s time to play poker - time to focus. He’s playing the $100K and the Main Event but he’s undecided on what other events he will play. Tournament listings are up on ChipMeUp and you can be part of the action. Tony played the Opening Event as a random choice, his brother was playing also. Tony laughs and says his brother “is about 10m-to-1 but you never know.”

Lynn asks about Christmas in Melbourne, Tony says it just went by, they weren’t celebrating, and it was “just a day.” And since he celebrates every day, Christmas wasn’t that important. New Years was spent with the kids and it all “sort of flew by.” It’s all about the ‘barbie.’

Tony made New Year’s Resolutions about three years ago and he’s working on strengthening the vows this year. He wants to be fit and healthy - he talks about staying with Lee Nelson and his weight loss and overall health for life goals.

Just as the conversation is ending, Tony’s brother shows up, busted out of the tourney. They are on their way to another barbie.

Closing out 2009

I am in NZ and have taken some great walks in the Abel Tasman National Park (Nelson) NZ. This is an amazing experience, it’s all so fresh. I am staying at the Split Apple Retreat with Lee Nelson who is also providing me with a very healthy diet. The pictures show everything here is like pure magic.

Hiking NZ Despite the financial shocks and crisis in many countries, the world is still here and nothing has changed. Sure, we may have less money now but there is no reason to be less happy. In fact, many have even more time now to spend with the people and families that they want to be happy. It’s also a great time to get healthy and eat well; at least this is what I am doing.

It’s been a solid year again for the top two online poker giants, Full Tilt and PokerStars. They are pulling away from the rest of the pack. But I feel that in 2010 there will be some serious consolidation and there will be a clear alternative - at least for European players. You really have to admire how much money goes back to poker players via Full Tilt and PokerStars and I hope that once the USA opens up, the European competition will also follow suit. As I said before I estimate that Full Tilt and PokerStars have paid out about 60M USD in total this year to their pros and this is by far a record. I think the whole industry might only pay about 70M total so those two pay the most.

fresh water As for my personal deal, all the final steps have been taken - so stand by for an announcement in regards to TonyGPoker.com and a little personal deal for me which will be fun. The deal will not be associated with PokerNews and will not stop me or PokerNews from being totally independent in terms of content and articles that we produce as we go forward.

Isilidur1

I have had a few conversations over the phone with him and I really love the kid. He is like me 15 years ago. I just wish I had as much talent as he does. He can play the world’s best on eight tables and he only learned PLO about eight months ago. Anyway, it is likely I will stake him in some big cash games in the future, this is what I do after all. I like to give people a chance in life to do well. That is why I got involved with ChipMeUp and I love to stake lots of people there. I am proud that I could stake 20 people this year at the WSOP main event and I hope I can stake even more of them in 2010. One thing I will be doing more of in 2010 is playing more WPT and EPT events for sure.

I want to close the chapter with Isildur1, I know who he is, no doubt. I also have to say that earlier I was guessing and I will never reveal who he is from here on out. I think it’s more exciting for everyone, leaving the mystery as a mystery.

Enjoying the good life! I can see how people attacked Full Tilt Poker on 2+2 – calling for lawsuits, etc., but this is not what Isildur1 really wants. He wants to enjoy his life and move on. This is what he needs to do. He is a brilliant player and with a little bit of hard work, he will build back up to a multimillion roll. It’s clear he is a favorite of the railbirds and guys, please do support him as he is the biggest thing that has happened in poker for a long, long time. The matter of the 4Million dollar loss to Hastings is now behind us, sure it was controversial but many things are. They don’t get reversed like the winning goal Thiery Henry scored against Ireland, it might be luck that the ref did not see it happen but the result stands. We all shout but it’s important to move on and enjoy the future.

Good luck, Ilsi in 2010 and the most important part is enjoying life.

Full Tilt is under fire

The world of poker is a very complex structure built around players, the online poker sites and casinos that provide the games, the limits and games played, rake, backers, and a lot more, and in the end, trying to provide the best game possible that helps everyone. The entire situation with Townsend, Hastings, and Cole involving their combined knowledge and play against Ilsuldur1 leaves a bad smell in the air for everyone, especially for Full Tilt since Townsend is one of their Red Pros.

As a player, I would like to see Townsend be more committed to giving his attention to doing what being a Red Pro demands at Full Tilt. Townsend has put his hands up as the guilty boy and received his penalty, the matter is now closed and we must move on, though most of us will remember it with a shadow on how he handled his role. He explains his actions in his blog post.

Hi everyone,

I’d like to try to help clear up some issues on my side. There has been a lot of intelligent debate that I would be happy to answer.

1.) Full Tilt very understandably did not want us to comment during an ongoing investigation, and they have found that I did not breach the site’s rules in any way.

2.) A shared hand history database seems to be the main issue of contention. I have discussed many difficult hands from play against Isildur with Brian Hastings and Brian Townsend, posted on pokerhand.org where we can give each other feedback. I have never sent or received raw hand history data to Brian Townsend or Brian Hastings (or anyone else for that matter) — reports of a “conglomerated” database of all of our hand histories from play with him are absolutely false. My hand histories showing Isildur’s mucked cards are in only my possession, and I don’t have any hand histories from Brian Hastings or Brian Townsend’s matches, such a database is not possible.

3.) Team play is another point that has been brought up. I have never played on Brian Townsend or Brian Hastings accounts, used a program to see their screen or let them see mine, nor have I been in their presence while any of us played online poker since a Cardrunners meeting about a year ago. Never have I asked for or been asked for strategy advice during a hand. I’d like to reiterate, the one-player-to-a-hand rule was never broken here.

4.) I’m not going to get into finances, but I have never played a single hand at a table with a player who I have had a piece of. That’s the only issue I could think of that would be relevant with regard to action sharing.

Cole

I believe it’s clear that Cole South is completely innocent. He is entitled to have a share of Hastings play (but this should be made public in my opinion) if he thinks there is value, he is happy to have a stake in Hastings.

As for Hastings, he should just tell everyone his side of the story. Townsends post tells us something but it still leaves an air of doubt in my thought. What Cole South did making his statement is very positive, and for me, has cleared his name.

I’ve had a look at the 2+2 community and the posts are pretty damaging, Full Tilt has made a statement on how they are handling the situation with an explanation. Giving Townsend a one month suspension may solve any future problems with Townsend, we have to hope so. Many wonder why Townsend is still part of the Red Pro team since this isn’t his first infraction with Full Tilt Poker Rules but only Full Tilt could answer that. Full Tilt has tried to be fair and handle a bad situation since they are more like a referee in this and what has happened is going to be a learning ground for anything that might come up in the future with their team and their players. It’s a difficult situation for everyone to be in and like most things in the poker world, we wait for the next hand.

The bad part of it all is that there appears to be no answer to help Isildur1. A Red Pro getting a penalty doesn’t change the matter of his poker losses and the fact that he was at a disadvantage with all of it. I believe he can come back because he is a young kid and lots of talent. It has to be a huge learning tool for him.

Let’s all hope that with each step we take in the poker world, we leave a clean footprint and the game improves for all of us.

Losing Big Money Can Be Tough

So right now I am busy in New Zealand working on my personal health. I have been doing a lot of hiking, fishing and just in general spending some quality time at the beach.

While spending time on the beach and enjoying the outdoors, I’ve also been putting thought into what’s going on with the big games and some of the controversy going on since Brian Hastings big win of $4 million over “Isildur1,” I have heard some rumblings about a potential controversy and I have to comment on it. From what I understand, Viktor Blom who I am sure is “Isildur1″ is about to process a formal complaint to Full Tilt Poker about his session with Brian Hastings. Blom believes that Brian Townsend and Cole South provided Hastings all of their personal hand histories from sessions against Isildur1. Don’t get me wrong, I think Brian Hastings is obviously a very talented player, and so are Townsend and South. Cole South personally crushed me in the 3rd round of the 25K buy-in PLO heads-up tournament recently, and the way I rate players I would put South and Townsend right at the top, I wish I could have that kind of poker talent.

fishing I was however shocked when Brian Hastings sat down at those tables. It felt like a trap, this is not a regular player at that level of play. Regarding the allegations coming from Isildur1, I would probably say Hastings did probably talk at length with both Cole South and Brian Townsend, and sure it is possible they shared hand histories. I’m sure these things happen all the time, especially when the stakes are as big as they are. I think it is a little bit strange that Hastings did not declare when asked who his backers were, and I think it would go a long way to clearing the air if Hastings made it clear who his backers were and made a firm declaration that he did not use hand histories from either Townsend or South. I really do love the way he plays the game at such a high level, and there is nothing negative from me, I’d just like to know the facts.

Anyway I urge Brian to sit down for another interview with PokerNews to discuss this all and clear the air. Being a Full Tilt Red pro carries some serious weight, and it’s probably natural there is more scrutiny on them than most players. I for one just want the games to be heathy and fair, which I am sure once the details are out we will see that they were in fact just that, healthy and fair. I also urge Isildur1 to sit down with PokerNews for an interview. The Lithuanian Dream

Today’s blog is going to be a little interesting perhaps for some.

I want to share some of my past with you. I think I remember my childhood from about the age where my grandmother died. I was about 3 three years old and it was an interesting day for a small kid as she was close to me. I remember her coffin being carried by 4 men down from our fourth story apartment in Kaunas, Lithuania. I was in the Soviet Union and living in a very interesting family, I think you could say our family were speculators.
My dad would buy fur and then process it and sell it. He was a Kolukio Pirmininkas (leader of a state run farm). We were well off and it was fun to be a kid my age, I can’t complain too much. The only thing is, this was the Soviet Union and on the first day of school, when asked what I wanted to be, I said, “You know what? I want to be a priest.” Now what I did was a big no, no. It was not something for a kid to say that had parents who were well do to and within the working system. Maybe that triggers it all off but I will go into more detail later.

Anyway I had a bit of a winge today. Well I am sitting on a balcony, overlooking a great ocean and the view is amazing. I went kayaking today and did about 5 miles of walking in a jungle, it was incredible fun. I then had a great dinner that I call value food made with love and it was really nutritious - amazing value I would call it. Later I will share this location with you.

Anyway I was thinking about what went down just last week and this went down in Vilnius Lithuania. As most people know, I am a pretty crazy guy. I give everyone a chance in life. I love new opportunities. I love to stake people in poker games tourneys and in business ventures. Although most of it turns to shit, it’s life and I love and live for it. I am out there - I make fun of people, I get made fun of, I attack them when we play, but I love them all, even if things turn to shit.

Anyway my thought is about Simonas Pocius (lol the name is no big deal but it’s Lithuanian) here is a link: [www.vrk.lt]

This is one of the young kids that is up and coming in Lithuania. I bought my office from him in Vilnius and I was thinking then, “This is an OK guy.” I am sure he wants to be a minister one day and be patriotic for his country.

Anyway, it’s all cool. A bit later, a few years after I bought the office from him and his dad, he comes to me and introduces his good friend Andrius Profis (not his real full name). Anyway this guy is into sports betting and has a sea of specialists that work out prices. Being the crazy cat that I am, I eat it up and since Pocius made the recommendation, I give this guy the capital to bet with and win more. Obviously I am greedy to make money but I also always feel that it’s going to be a system of balances; the money does not really belong to me. All I have to do is find the best way to use it once I have it. So Pocius made the connection and being a guy that wants to govern, you would think he would have at least some responsibility for his actions. I am not saying he has to give me the money back if I get ripped off or defrauded or taken advantage of but you’ve got to say, “Tony I am sorry I let you down. I feel responsible, let’s sit down and talk this out.”

You know what this guy said, “I am not responsible in any way.”

I just hope that this is not what Lithuanian Parliament Candidates have preset in their heads.

Growing up in Australia I know how different the thinking is and I hope from the bottom of my heart that in time, us Lithuanian patriots also feel the same way and take responsibility. Anyway this might have been a con all the way. If so kudos to those two guys. They got me for $200,000 and I hope they live in peace. This is not the last 200k I am going to lose. It hurts but I have forgiven them and moved on. It’s sad but it’s life and I am still going to give others a chance whether they are gay, black, Arab, Chinese or whatever. I think I love them all even if they want to fuck me over every now and again.

I’ve got to talk about one little patriotic thing I feel proud of, The Lithuanian National Basketball Team. They got the wild card to play in the World Championship in Turkey and I will be joining them. I love basketball and personally know many of the greats from all eras. Several have been to Australia to visit me and I hope I am strong enough to help basketball in my country of birth although I am a spirit of the whole world.

I feel this time I made an impact when I arranged for one of the sponsors to cover a small part of the 500k euro Lithuania had to pay to get the invite. Did I take a risk doing it? For sure! Will it work out? Who knows? Time will tell though. But I know the country does not have much going for it and I know that as a kid basketball for me was one thing we could do to show everyone who Lithuanians were - we are warriors and we fight to the end even though there are just 3 million of us.

Being Tony G - an interview

Tony in an interview with Rikard from PokerTube. Tony is in LA on business and relaxing and learning new things. Tony says he is in very positive development and working on his site HealthNews.com and he’s getting into health and learning about the body, including relaxation.

Rikard asks about the poker business and Tony moving into other areas of business as well. Tony says he is looking into many other things and he is into whatever works.

The conversation turns to Tony’s actions on YouTube when he was ‘going mad with Ralph Perry and Surinder Sunar.’ Rikard asks if they were just acts and if so are they behind us. Tony says he’s not regetting it, it’s him, it’s the way he was, he’s not ashamed of it. He says it was his reaction at the time and he’s proud that some passion and entertainment came through in poker. He says that was him and it’s still him today. Tony believes that his passion and the ability to express himself may have helped him move into creating his style as Tony G and his inner drive has moved him on, opening up doors, including building websites which he really enjoys.

Rikard brings the point that at the time that Tony was dancing on Ralph Perry and ‘Bring on More Russians,’ that some people may have thought Tony had something against Russians. Tony says he has nothing against Russians, he feels he’s an entertainer, he explains where he was born and his association with Russia and says it was fun to get something back on the Russians for occupying Lithunia. Tony says his best friend is Kirill Jerasimov who is a Russian and if Ralph Perry had been from Sweden, he probably would have said Swedes.

Rikard asks if Tony is still playing as much poker or if he’s more into the business now. Tony says he doesn’t play much but he has $150,000 profit on Full Tilt right now. He says he will always play but he has other things to do that are important.

They talk about Tony’s session on Full Tilt where he picked up a $100,000+ pot and he was happy with it. Tony says it’s a hobby for him and that he doesn’t plan on spending as much time playing as Patrik Antonius and some of them do.

Isildur1 comes up in the conversation and Tony says he still believes Isildur1 is Viktor Blom, although he says he could be wrong. People ask Tony why he brings Isilidur1 out of the closet and Tony says it’s obvious, Tony’s in the media business. Tony would like to see Isildur1 clean up. Backgammon comes into the conversation as a means to create the money to play those limits as Tony explains it, he says it is only his theory.

Tony talks about Gus Hansen - Tony is openly appreciate of Gus’ lifestyle where he has his pick of women, his healthy look, and playing as a Full Tilt Poker. Tony is asked about his relationship with Gus and if it has changed. Tony says he would rather not talk about it, he says that it’s OK if people talk him (Tony), but leaves it at that.

ChipMeUp comes into the conversation, Tony says PokerNews is totally supporting ChipMeUp and it’s good for poker; it’s an experiment but it seems to be going well. It’s mainly to help players that don’t have a bankroll, they can sell a piece of themselves in a tournament, he explains that he has people he backs automatically and that’s part of poker.

Tony’s future plans, he will be going to Australia soon to play the Aussie Millions and basically spend time with family. He is into health and has three rules that he’s going to stick to - relaxation, exercise, and nutrition. Tony says he is happy with life, excited because he has a lot more new developments he will get into and he’ll have more strength to get into poker. He talks about his team that drive the company and how he relies on them. NeverWin Poker comes up and Tony talks a bit about how the site wasn’t what Tony wanted to be part of the PokerNews Team. It’s a friendly divorce.

Tony plans to be back in LA after Australia and then back to Europe. He says he will be playing a lot of poker next year.

“Well I just got into town about an hour ago, took a look around to see which way the wind blows.” The Doors were always my favorite band. That’s pretty sick since they weren’t even in my lifetime, the music is so creative. Music has such a strong association with our lives and a song can take you right back to a time or moment passed and I think I can be like Morrison, without the drugs, my drug is getting high on working on and accomplishing goals I set for myself.

I am in LA for awhile to take a look around and there are business meetings that will take up some of my time. After the meetings I plan on popping down to have a look at the poker action and I might jump into some of the games if the action looks right. Then Australia is waiting and I will be on my way there soon. I do miss my family and want to get back as soon as I can.

Most of my day is spent writing emails, chatting on Skype, and for a fix I jump into an online poker site to see what limit-who’s playing and if I like the game. I’ve been on a nice run and I want to end 2009 in front so I have pulled the plug on any playing from here, except the Sunday Bike Ride on TonyG Poker so if you want to play with me, that is the only place you can catch me, bike me, and pick up a $300 bounty if you can send me out looking for a ride home. But I plan on winning the event this Sunday so don’t start making your holiday plans around the TonyG knockout bounty.

My deal for a deal with the online poker sites has slowed down but it might be that I don’t want to sign without the deal being right. I am happy to have no deal as well, that way I am free to be able to play and represent poker as I want to. But if I do sign with somebody, as an ambassador of that site, I want it to work for all sides and I want to be a great asset to the site. And, if I do sign, it will not change PokerNews. PokerNews will remain an independent poker news site.

I am going to keep working on getting more fit and healthier so that I have more energy and I’m searching for a good, big live cash game. There is a spot I found in London thatlooks really good but it’s a NL game that is a bit slow and boring to me but it’s in my plans for next year. A Swedish newspaper wrote about me this week on how I tilted Isildur1 and then took money off of him. Well, I played 20 hands with him that day and was a 9% shot to win the hand but what can I do if I am lucky? That pot was over 100K and I’m very happy that I was the one stacking the chips at the end.

As for Sweden, I might team up with www.pokertube.com and do a live video show once a week. It’s Rikard’s idea so we will explore it and if not, I may do it via my blog. It might be a lot of fun, let’s see.

Playing Full Tilt Poker 300-600 PLO

I have been having a go with the big boys on Full Tilt Poker. I am about 150k up which is not bad. LOL, I know. I know it’s just luck. I am never going to claim that I am a pro player, but I can play with the best of them and I play well enough to cover the rent every month. I love poker and can mix it up with the best even if it’s just for a few hands. I treat poker as a hobby. It’s not something I want to run my life. I want poker to be a hobby and I don’t want to become a poker hobbit and just try to get lucky and crave for it and then try not to play too much.

I want to play because I enjoy the game. I do feel I have a lot of big results in me and hope to win something big again soon, maybe the Aussie Millions, which is a huge tournament in Melbourne Australia every year with a big buy in and it’s coming soon, or the 100K High Roller Event there. Thanks to Full Tilt for having so much action. Life can be fun when you win a little money or lose, as long as you can afford it.

Thinking about the big limits a bit more on Full Tilt Poker, maybe they should just keep 300-600 PLO as the biggest game and you should only play if you are known or have made a big deposit; those are just ideas that come to me, I don’t want the game too high as it’s running away from what I can afford to play and that is not what I want in the long run. I still want to play and like high limit but I’m not interested in losing a house or three every time I play. The speed junkies probably don’t mind, but I do, I look for value with my poker investment.

Following up on news I briefly mentioned before, I still have my deal, there’s only one deal now that I will do and with all the legal stuff it’s so hard. I hate it so much, just worrying about lawyers all the time. They always try to take advantage of poor people like me who come off the streets when they say, “It’s all fine mate and it needs a light touch,” that rings more alarm bells than anything.

The Premier League of Poker is coming up in Las Vegas on the 10th of February and I have been invited so I am excited to be playing that event. It’s my favorite poker event in the world, so much fun, and you get to play for several days, even if you bust, but I don’t plan on busting, ever, and that is what makes me dangerous in a poker game because I know if I have a chip or two, I’m a contender.

My opinion of what’s going on and Isildur1

I don’t want to talk too much about Isildur1 but I can reveal to all it is Viktor and he crushed them on the iPoker network for some time. I actually played a few hands with him today and quite many on iPoker where my site TonyG Poker runs. I honestly respect this guy 100%. He has proved that he is the best player in the game right now; this is based on many, many hands on iPoker and Full Tilt Poker.

I have one tip for him – you are still young, the key to make it is zero tilt. You can never get upset about losing hands. Having the ability to play as you and Tom do, or anyone else, you have to have great self control and money management.

Anyway, LOL, I just wish I was half as good as Tom or Viktor but I am not in the same class. Plus I guess I am too old now to risk a few mill with no solid edge. I jumped in the 300/600 on Full Tilt and lost about 30k or so and did not feel good about playing so I am out of those games but I wanted to try it to see how it feels and have played a few hands over the last five days but it is of no value for me right now; maybe another time.

I want to explore where Full Tilt is going now with these very huge games. I think the money is not correct right now and that these players are not showing a good example as pros…I am talking about Gus and Durrrr here, for those two world top pros to be losing 15 Million on Full Tilt in six months is not the right example to the up and coming players. I think Full Tilt needs to kill the big games, with the biggest being 100-200. In the long run, I believe the limits being played right now will hurt the game. Sure, it’s nice to have so many fans watching but if you look at the chat, they are brutal to Durr. Most of the players like to see him lose his money because they can never play like him.

The great players understand how massive Durrrr is to be able to play such huge stakes and be back every day, but I just feel that the pressure can get to anyone when you swing millions and go broke, it’s a hard road back when you lose 7.5 Million, it’s not going to be easy.

The games look too big to me right now. They need to be realigned. Poker is meant to be a fun hobby and it’s fine to play against Andy Beal who can play the corporation as they are all matured gamblers but these are young kids on the internet.

Let’s explore Full Tilt further. I think what they are doing for poker is amazing and I estimate Full Tilt pays their pros close to 50 Million per year; this is money going back to the poker community. With some of their money, it’s in rake back, etc., for the Red Pro deal; but it’s still a huge deal to get the lowest deal with Full Tilt if you have some talent and self control, you are set for life. Kudos to Full Tilt for giving so much money out to the players, it feeds the live poker industry like the WSOP in a mega way.

If we look at PokerStars who give players a better deal in principal, once you sign with Stars, you are also set – they take care of you like family; I hear this all the time. PokerStars loves poker and also gives a huge amount of money back to the poker community. I estimate that PokerStars pays their players at least 2 Million per month, this is a big help to everyone. The other thing with PokerStars is that they are so responsible with their players that their support of everyone that might have a problem is really strong and they really care about supporting and stopping players who have issues. Also, PokerStars is much more about tournaments and having fun with poker.

I think for poker, PokerStars and Full Tilt are a great example of the good that can be done by poker for the positives.

Let’s look at Party Poker. The whole industry boom was due to the money that Party invested and the innovative ideas of Lipscomb and his WPT. These two companies are responsible for the boom in the early years when poker was fun and the Party founders made billions. Others that came after them also made out OK. Party Poker is waiting on the USA right now but I feel the company has turned around from the horrid management and the direction the company was going in before. The new team is a poker team. You can see they will be a strong force with them buying the WPT. It’s kind of good for poker as there can be some balance now for players. It’s important that there are several very strong companies and solid competition in the market place. It’s fair to say I always loved Party Poker. The fact that I did so well out of the founders being so clever is an important factor here. But when you look at Party Poker, how did they make it so big? Maybe it was Mike Sexton, a poker player that the key players in the USA could associate with - and that brought the poker players to Party Poker.

I think that the management later forgot about Mike and forgot about using money to sign good poker people like Mike and others like him who could add credibility, passion, and commitment to their brand. I talk to Mike all the time and I know how loyal he always has been to Party and I think we have to keep in mind that at the end of the day, if they did not have Mike and his connection with the WPT and TV, Party may have never made it so big. So maybe at the end, we all improve the value of having poker pros behind sites and that way if we can pay, say 250 Million per year to poker players around the world, the live circuit can get 3x bigger going forward.

Now things will be very interesting with the WSOP. They are launching in the UK, and are imminently powered by 888, which I think is one of the weakest platforms out there. And they are entering the UK, the most competitive and least profitable market in the world. I’m not sure it’s such a smart move. It’s a huge gamble if the true poker sites who love poker, and the players in the game, don’t back the WSOP going forward; they may see the WSOP as a competitor and it will not be easy, but if players can go to qualify to the WSOP, then it could be even better. The guy powering the WSOP online is the ex-Party guy and everyone has a position on what he did there. But the guy has talent and is a good family man and I am sure he is determined to really do well with the WSOP. It’s all going to be exciting and I wish that the WSOP would give some of the money they rake from their events to the poker community so it can get healthier.

Busy in London

I am in London right now going to the gym every day and trying to stay fit. My only problem is that I like pizza and good food and wine so I need to work on giving up on some of those things.

I have a little stressing going on as I have a personal deal to sign and I have two really good offers on the table and possibly a third one will come along. There is only one deal I want to sign and that is with the best company in the world that loves poker. I know that Tom Dwan signed the biggest endorsement deal in the history of the game. It’s said that he had a very late offer from the biggest poker operator in the world and that offer as I understand, was close to 2 million per year. So the price of the big players is rising.

How much is Isildur1 worth? He killed Durrrr and it’s not just a killing, it’s total devastation, it’s like signing Jordan to have him turn up and score 3 points a game.

Anyway, Tom seems to be on the bench right now but I am sure he will recover from this. I was down taking a look for his Million Dollar Challenge and I did an interview and said that Tom is a genius, the best player ever.

You can have the most talent but you always have to expect somebody better to come along and beat you. It might be just for awhile but why go and lose it all when you cannot reload? Tom is young and will bounce back from this bigger than ever. I know many people would take a share of him and Ivey will most likely back him so he will never be broke but he might be close to being cash broke right now.

Full Tilt has done amazing things with their big games. Everyone is fascinated and it’s so clear that Full Tilt is the fastest growing site right now. People love to watch the big games and this includes me as well. I might play bigger but I only want to play against players I know I am stronger than but I would love to play with these guys, say in a 1 Million buy-in tournament that ran over one week and included all the games. Let’s hope that somebody launches a tour. It can only be Full Tilt as they have all the heavy weight poker players right now.

Big kudos for Full Tilt but they should also think about these huge stakes getting out of hand. When young kids watch the games, they can get the wrong idea. PokerStars, by not going this route and by not being able to sign Tom, might be better off as the super high stakes with young kids playing cannot be too healthy if things go wrong. Ilsidur1 is only 19 and you don’t want a kid jumping off of a bridge after losing 10 Million in one day.

In Paris

I am in Paris at the Aviation Club de France. It’s my favorite country in the world so I decided to come up here to play a bit of cash and have a look around the city.

Right now I have an offer to sign with a major poker room and it seems exciting. I might even sign this week so be sure to check back soon to find out who I will sign with. It’s a large deal that would include the sale of TonyG Poker to the new company too.

As I’ve said before, it is very exciting times in online poker with new regulation coming, there are many new opportunities so I am hoping to be able to participate in them. The key is to have your name up there and hope to make the deals that make sense. For now I am enjoying Paris but come Monday I will be back in the UK and the Isle of Man and hope to sign a deal next week.

I don’t have plans for poker right now other than playing online at TonyG Poker. Right now I am focused on business and things are looking very interesting in the online poker business. Regulation is coming all over and it’s good for everyone. The players are going to be safer and the governments are going to keep that in mind, everyone is a winner. Let’s hope for regulation in Europe and there will be another poker boom in the second leg if the USA follows suit, then it will be wham, bam, thank you mama. Right now I doubt the USA will kick in but time will tell so for now I play a little poker and work a lot so pokernews.com will be positioned as the number one poker information site. PokerStars Baltic Festival Interview

Tony is being interviewed after busting out of the PokerStars Baltic Festival. The 1st question asked of him was “What The Hell Happened?” Tony explains that he had Aces and another came on the board - they both end up agreeing ‘that’s poker.’
Tony is asked about the motivation to play a 10K buy-in when he’s been at tables with over 3 million in the pot. Tony says it’s hard but he just came to play. He says he’s not trying to think about the money or the players. He feels the standard, the quality is outstanding. He says he backs a lot of Estonian players because they are very good players.

Another question posed to Tony is about Tony helping create the poker environment in Estonia and Tony’s thoughts on it. Tony said there is regulation but the guidelines are unclear and Tony is seeking a license in Estonia to make poker available to everyone in the country.

The G is also asked why him - why Tony personally - is involved. Tony says he is a ‘Balt’ himself and he’s not only interested in poker, he does a lot of websites, he has a lot of operations in Lithuania, he believes there is a lot of talent in the Baltic and has good friends there. He says poker is a hobby to him as well and he makes a little bit of money out of it at the end of the day so it makes sense to keep investing.

They talk about poker and the business side vs. being a player. Tony stresses to the young kids coming up that they should make sure their life is in order and then play poker; take poker like a sport or hobby that you want to keep improving.

Poker in Estonia is booming and exploding; Tony is then asked if he feels any of the players in Estonia have the possibility to progress, to be as famous as Tony is and play in as big of limits as Tony plays in. Tony says it’s very possible, that there will be higher limits played, a lot of new players coming up, and hopefully it just keeps getting better for the rest.

Leaving Lithuania for Estonia

It’s 6:47 a.m. and I’m in Vilnius, Lithuania. I’m ready to jump on my privately booked jet and will be flying to Estonia to play in a poker tournament. The tournament is the PokerStars Baltic Open. It’s not a big buy-in event and I’m mainly going there to see what’s going on with poker in the Baltic States. There are many Lithuanian stars going down like Andrius Tapinas and Marijonas Mikutavicus who is one of the most famous singers from the country of my birth, and perhaps the most exciting of all is Miss Lithuania 2008.

Also Estonia has passed a law to regulate online gaming so I am meeting the authorities and some lawyers to find out how it all works. Things seem exciting right now with lots of new opportunities as new regulations kick in. You’ve got to keep up with the game and be ahead of things to be able to earn enough to pay the rent. It should all be interesting.

WPT Marrakech

I am playing good poker, having fun, and in the money in the WPT Marrakech event. To everyone that backed me on ChipMeUp, thank you. We are making a profit right now and winning this event would be a big profit for all of us. I feel really good and hope to win it from here.

I’ve been enjoying the warm weather, it really suits me. I love to play with French players, there is lots of really wild action and it makes poker fun.

A big thanks to Chili Poker who invited me here. I am wearing their logo in this event. It’s a great set up and Chili Poker made this event happen. The WPT is a massive brand and Party Gaming will do great out of it. Party Gaming recently bought the WPT Assets and I will make sure to play more WPT Events over time. It’s a shame this event is not on TV but there is a massive amount of media here from France. Now that poker is opening up in France, the growth will be huge.

Heading into the WPT Marrakech

My heat with Alec in the PKR Heads-up did not work out at all and I got crushed. I did make the money and felt I played really well so I’m happy about that and how it all went.
I got on a plane to Marrakech (Morocco) and I have been enjoying the great weather and getting ready to play the WPT event here today. I really want to win a big event this year and I am going to try my best and focus on getting there. Winning a big event is something I want very much, you may watch my videos and believe that I only want to have fun when I play but my heart is set on a title.

Morocco has been very nice. Marrakech is a medieval type of old town with all kinds of winding streets and snake charmers, lots of markets and carpet salesman. I did sneak into a carpet shop and bought several carpets as there’s such great value here.

Today I have to play well and enjoy the WPT event in Africa.

PKR Heads-Up, Heat 2

I played Sandra Naujoks in the second heat and had another easy win. I am not in the money yet. I have played no-mistake poker so far and feel really good about my play and being here. I think I am the best player left in the field now and don’t see how I will not take this down. I play Alec Torelli in my third heat in a few hours.
When I leave here on Sunday it will be to Marrakech for the WPT event. I’ve already set my shares to be sold on ChipMeUp for the Marrakech event. If you want to get into the action but can’t be there, ChipMeUp is your opportunity. It also gives someone that has limited funds an opportunity to play by selling part of their action. Stop in and look around, there are some strong horses selling shares there.

The flight to Marrakech will be a lot smoother if I take the PKR Heads-up win with me. More news coming.

PKR Heads-up Grand Slam

I just played my PKR Heads-Up heat Round 1 with Jennifer Tilly. Things went very well. I did not lose a pot at show down during the entire heat and it was all over in 45 minutes. Tomorrow I play Sandra Naujoks in Round 2 and I’m looking forward to it. As soon as I am done with the PKR Heads-up Event, I am off to Marrakech Africa to play the WPT Event.

I’ve heard the Marrakech games are really great cash games and high limit. I haven’t decided yet how high I would play but it’s pot limit. I’m looking forward to being there and checking the games out but first things first, I want to win the PKR Heads-up.

Tony G Celebrity Bounty Event

Lynn Gilmartin talks with Tony. Tony says he’s feeling good. He caught the last bus to the crown and he’s happy to be there and it’s exciting. He says having an event named after him is OK, he’s just been lucky in much bigger tournaments and that a tournament could be named after anyone but he got lucky. He used to be on the street running around but now a tournament is named after him and it could be named after anyone. He says he’s happy he can participate and have a bit of fun with things he does.

He is asked about when he’s a bounty and how it feels. He talks about the bounty every Sunday on Tony G Poker where people just push in in the bounty tournament. Here, he says he just wants to have fun with people, have a few drinks, and enjoy!

Tony says he just came from London and he decided not to play the WSOPE main event and he sacrificed to play the PokerNews Cup and the Tony G Bounty. He said Crown called him and said they wouldn’t like him anymore if he didn’t come and play the bounty event. It is his event but he’s missed his own event before and he doesn’t have to be anywhere in the world but he wanted to be here. He says he never seems to do well any time he comes to Melbourne, he has family to see and spends time with them.

He loves Melbourne, it’s the best city in the world.

I know most people would wonder how, because just being at the WSOPE is a big event, but I wasn’t enjoying being there and I decided to pull the plug and go to Australia. Although Australia is not home anymore, I still have a lot of family there and I was missing them very much. I’m in Australia to visit and play a little poker for the next two weeks.

The PokerNews Cup is on also and I will play in it. It’s a lot more fun and much easier to play than the WSOPE main event. Look for me on ChipMeUp where I have listed my event so everyone can have a piece of my action. I will focus on putting in a good effort for the main event.

Biked at Unibet Open Prague

I am out of the UniBet Open. I picked up K-K in the big blind in the first five minutes. There was a raise and reraise before me and I just called. Two of us saw the flop, me and the button reraiser. The flop was 5-6-4. I check raised on the flop and there was no escape. My opponent held A-A. Short and sweet, there was no help for me and it was bike time.

Unibet Open and Poker Schedule

I am in Prague to play the Unibet Open. I have a very busy schedule ahead of me with the WSOPE and then the EPT London. I have listed all of the events I am going to play on ChipMeUp so you can buy a share of me in all the events. I’ll be playing with my and your interests at heart so be sure to follow my progress and I’ll do my best to make all of us some money in these events.

Every Sunday at 8PM UK time will find me playing the Sunday Bike Ride on TonyG Poker. It’s growing every week and I’m having fun while playing this freeroll and I’m very excited about the fact that it’s getting bigger all the time.

I went down to Copenhagen for the EIGA. There are a lot of things happening in online poker. I heard that Betfair will drop their own software and will use Ongame instead. It’s a pretty big blow for iPoker not to get this deal and a huge win for Ongame. This could see many skins wanting to leave iPoker and go to Ongame. Time will tell but there are going to be many big deals in the online gaming industry and who knows what PokerStars and Full Tilt will do? I have a feeling that one of them could leave the USA market if the UIGEA goes into full effect come December.

Anyway, have fun at the tables and play well.
